The vulnerability

What the bug is

When dwc3_check_event_buf() reads a GEVNTCOUNT value exceeding the event buffer length, commit 63ccd26cd1f6 ("usb: dwc3: gadget: check that event count does not exceed event buffer length") returns IRQ_NONE without writing back GEVNTCOUNT. Since the DWC3 interrupt is level-triggered, the uncleared IRQ source keeps the line asserted, causing a tight IRQ storm that accumulates 99,900 unhandled interrupts and triggers spurious.c:184 BUG -> kernel panic. The resulting call stack: __report_bad_irq+0xac/0xc8 note_interrupt+0x340/0x468 handle_irq_event+0xac/0xc0 handle_fasteoi_irq+0x120/0x228 gic_handle_irq+0x68/0x108 ... kernel BUG at kernel/irq/spurious.c:184 To reproduce, write a bogus value exceeding the event buffer length directly to the GEVNTCOUNT register: devmem <DWC3_BASE + 0xc40c> 4 0x1004 Write the bogus count back to GEVNTCOUNT to clear the IRQ source, consistent with the stale event clearing pattern in dwc3_event_buffers_setup(), and schedule error recovery to reinitialize the controller.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine

grep -wE 'CONFIG_OF|CONFIG_PCI|CONFIG_USB|CONFIG_USB_DWC3|CONFIG_USB_GADGET|CONFIG_USB_PHY|CONFIG_USB_SUPPORT' /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

lsmod | grep -w dwc3

Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-98767, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
