The vulnerability

What the bug is

vc4_kms_load() calls drm_kms_helper_poll_init() but the driver provides no matching drm_kms_helper_poll_fini(). The output poll work stays scheduled after unbind and runs on the freed drm_device: # modprobe vc4; rmmod vc4; sleep 10 BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in delayed_work_timer_fn BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in drm_client_dev_hotplug [drm] Workqueue: events output_poll_execute [drm_kms_helper] Allocated by task 171: __devm_drm_dev_alloc Freed by task 262 (rmmod): drm_dev_put / component_del Use drmm_kms_helper_poll_init() so polling is finalized with the device, as other drivers do.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Kernel module
vc4

Check it on the machine

grep -w CONFIG_DRM_VC4 /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

lsmod | grep -w vc4

Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-98309, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
