The vulnerability

What the bug is

bcm_vk_sync_msgq() fills the message queue information and then sets msgq_inited. Readers call bcm_vk_drv_access_ok() before accessing the message queues and their cached queue information. atomic_set()/atomic_read() do not order those accesses. A reader can see msgq_inited set while still seeing stale queue information. Use release when publishing the initialized queues and acquire when checking the gate. Keep the clear in bcm_vk_blk_drv_access() as atomic_set(). It closes the gate and does not publish queue state to readers.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

What this is
BROADCOM VK DRIVERMAINTAINERS section matched on drivers/misc/bcm-vk/ · Supported
Kernel module
none to look for. The file would have gone into bcm_vk, and Debian does not compile it into that module, so finding bcm_vk in lsmod would say nothing about this CVE.

Check it on the machine

grep -w CONFIG_BCM_VK /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian does not build this code. In 5 releases below, every kernel flavour Debian publishes has the switch off, so the vulnerable file is compiled into no kernel binary Debian ships.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-93052, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
