The vulnerability

What the bug is

Runtime PM must be enabled before creating the PHY, since phy_create() only enables runtime PM on the PHY device if it is already enabled on this parent device. However, the runtime PM callbacks dereference the hsphy instance, which is not yet ready, leaving a window where a suspend callback may trigger a NULL pointer dereference. Take a runtime PM usage reference with pm_runtime_get_noresume() before enabling runtime PM and release it once the PHY has been created, so that no runtime suspend can run before the PHY is ready. This also prevents a short window where an unnecessary runtime suspend can occur. Use the devres-managed version to ensure PM runtime is symmetrically disabled during driver removal for proper cleanup.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Kernel module
phy_qcom_snps_femto_v2

Check it on the machine

grep -wE 'CONFIG_GENERIC_PHY|CONFIG_PHY_QCOM_USB_SNPS_FEMTO_V2' /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

lsmod | grep -w phy_qcom_snps_femto_v2

Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian does not build this code in 1 release. It does build it in 4 releases, so the answer depends on which release the machine runs.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-90281, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
