The vulnerability

What the bug is

Syzkaller reported a storage null-ptr-deref issue after replacing prog. This occurs in the following scenario: 1. prog A, an empty prog, is attached to a cgrp. 2. prog B uses BPF_MAP_TYPE_PERCPU_CGROUP_STORAGE and calls the bpf_get_local_storage helper. 3. link_update is called to replace prog A with prog B. The reason is that __cgroup_bpf_replace fails to alloc and assign the required cgrp storage for the incoming replacement prog. Consequently, the new prog inherits an uninit storage, leading to null-ptr-deref panic when kick the new prog. Fix this by rejecting a link update if new_prog's cgroup storage is incompatible with link->prog.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine

grep -wE 'CONFIG_BPF|CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF' /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian builds this code. Every release below compiles the affected file into the kernels it ships.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-90250, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
