The vulnerability
What the bug is
qla_nvme_xmt_ls_rsp() bails out to the out: label when firmware is not started (!ha->flags.fw_started), but the out: path unconditionally calls qla_nvme_ls_reject_iocb(), which ends in qla2x00_start_iocbs() and an unconditional doorbell write to the request queue in-pointer register. This rings the firmware doorbell and queues an IOCB that stopped or resetting firmware cannot consume, and touches MMIO during the reset/EEH window where fw_started is also clear. Only emit the LS reject IOCB (and ring the doorbell) when fw_started is set; otherwise just clean up and return. The post-allocation failure cases (SRB alloc / qla2x00_start_sp() failure) run with firmware started and still send the reject. Apply the same guard to the reject emission in qla2xxx_process_purls_pkt().
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -w CONFIG_SCSI_QLA_FC /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w qla2xxxPrints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-89842, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
