The vulnerability
What the bug is
Normal client creation goes through rpc_setup_pipedir(), which records clnt->pipefs_sb, but the mount-event path in __rpc_clnt_handle_event() calls rpc_setup_pipedir_sb() directly and never refreshes that field. The umount path also removes the directory without clearing clnt->pipefs_sb. After a late pipefs mount or any remount, rpc_clnt_remove_pipedir() compares the current superblock against a stale pipefs_sb pointer and skips cleanup, leaving pipefs dentries whose inode private data still points at a freed rpc_clnt, leading to a potential use-after-free during subsequent rpc_info_open() or rpc_show_info() calls. Fix this by properly updating clnt->pipefs_sb upon mount events and clearing it during unmount or failure paths.
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -w CONFIG_SUNRPC /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w sunrpcPrints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.
Show whether Debian builds this, per release
Debian builds this as a loadable module. Every release below compiles it as a module on every flavour, so whether the code is in the running kernel depends on whether that module is loaded.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-89543, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
