The vulnerability

What the bug is

vmw_shader_define() validates the user-supplied shader window against its backing buffer with (u64)buffer->tbo.base.size < (u64)size + (u64)offset drm_vmw_shader_create_arg::offset is __u64 in the uapi; when it is near U64_MAX the unsigned addition wraps and the resulting tiny value passes the check. The unbounded offset is then stored in res->guest_memory_offset and forwarded to host SVGA shader-create commands. Use check_add_overflow() to detect the wrap and compare the resulting endpoint against the buffer size.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

vmwgfx

Check it on the machine

grep -w CONFIG_DRM_VMWGFX /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

lsmod | grep -w vmwgfx

Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-80887, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
