The vulnerability

What the bug is

nvme uses page_frag_cache to preallocate PDU for each preallocated request of block device. Block devices are created in parallel threads, consequently page_frag_cache is used in not thread-safe manner. That leads to incorrect refcounting of backstore pages and premature free. That can be catched by !sendpage_ok inside network stack: WARNING: CPU: 7 PID: 467 at ../net/core/skbuff.c:6931 skb_splice_from_iter+0xfa/0x310. tcp_sendmsg_locked+0x782/0xce0 tcp_sendmsg+0x27/0x40 sock_sendmsg+0x8b/0xa0 nvme_tcp_try_send_cmd_pdu+0x149/0x2a0 Then random panic may occur. Fix that by serializing the usage of page_frag_cache.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

nvme_tcp

Check it on the machine

grep -w CONFIG_NVME_TCP /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

lsmod | grep -w nvme_tcp

Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian builds this as a loadable module. Every release below compiles it as a module on every flavour, so whether the code is in the running kernel depends on whether that module is loaded.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-80862, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
