RDMA/hns: Fix memory leak of bonding resources
Published 2026-08-28 (2 months ago) by the Linux kernel CNA. Subsystem drivers/infiniband. Debian urgency: unimportant.
What to do, per Debian release
Debian's own status for CVE-2026-80625 in every release this site tracks, and what each one means in practice. Every status below is the one the Debian Security Team publishes for this CVE. source
| Release | Status | Version | What this means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debian 12bookworm | not affected | 6.1.190-1 | Nothing to do. bookworm never shipped the vulnerable code. |
| Debian 13trixie | not affected | 6.12.113-1 | Nothing to do. trixie never shipped the vulnerable code. |
| Debian 14forky | fixed | 7.1.5-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 7.1.5-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
| Debian unstablesid | fixed | 7.1.5-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 7.1.5-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
The vulnerability
What the bug is
In a corner case of concurrent driver removal and driver reset, bonding resource is first released in hns_roce_hw_v2_exit() during driver removal, and then is allocated again in hns_roce_register_device() during driver reset. This leads to memory leak because the release timing has already passed. This may also lead to a kernel panic as below because of the leaked notifier callback: Call trace: 0xffffa20fccc04978 (P) raw_notifier_call_chain+0x20/0x38 call_netdevice_notifiers_info+0x60/0xb8 netdev_lower_state_changed+0x4c/0xb8 As Sashiko suggested, the teardown order of bonding resources should be inverted to make sure the resources are released when the driver is removed.
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -wE 'CONFIG_INFINIBAND|CONFIG_INFINIBAND_HNS|CONFIG_INFINIBAND_HNS_HIP08' /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w hns_roce_hw_v2Prints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.

Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-80625, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
