The vulnerability
What the bug is
create_midi2_ump() registers a card-owned snd_ump_endpoint and stores a back-pointer to its per-interface snd_usb_midi2_ump object in ump->private_data, but it never installs an ump->private_free hook and never clears that pointer. If a later step of snd_usb_midi_v2_create() fails, its error path calls free_all_midi2_umps(), which kfree()s the snd_usb_midi2_ump object while the already-registered endpoint keeps pointing at it. The created /dev/snd/umpC*D* node stays exposed, so the first operation of any UMP open, ump_to_endpoint(), dereferences the dangling ump->private_data and reads rmidi->eps[dir] out of freed memory. A malicious USB MIDI 2.0 device that makes creation fail after the endpoint is registered can thus trigger a slab use-after-free read on a subsequent open of the UMP node. Clear the endpoint's back-pointer before freeing the object, and let ump_to_endpoint() tolerate a NULL private_data so the open/close/trigger callbacks fail cleanly (their callers already handle a NULL endpoint) instead of dereferencing a stale pointer. Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -wE 'CONFIG_SND|CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO|CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO_MIDI_V2' /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
Show whether Debian builds this, per release
Debian does not build this code in 4 releases. The build rule could not be established for 1 release, so nothing is claimed about those.

- not established - no Makefile entry for the affected file

- not enabled on any flavour - this release does not build the code
Where a release above reads "not established", no build rule for the affected file was found in that release's kernel tree. That is a gap in this lookup, not a finding that the code is absent.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-74501, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
