What to do, per Debian release
Debian's own status for CVE-2026-74426 in every release this site tracks, and what each one means in practice. Every status below is the one the Debian Security Team publishes for this CVE. source
| Release | Status | Version | What this means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Debian 12bookworm | fixed | 6.1.180-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 6.1.180-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
| Debian 13trixie | fixed | 6.12.100-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 6.12.100-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
| Debian 14forky | fixed | 7.1.5-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 7.1.5-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
| Debian unstablesid | fixed | 7.1.5-1 | Update the kernel and reboot. Fixed in 7.1.5-1. A running kernel keeps the old code until the machine restarts. |
The vulnerability
What the bug is
afs_alloc_sbi() uses kzalloc for memory allocation. And, if ctx->dyn_root is not null, as->cell and as->volume are null. In trace_afs_get_tree() they are dereferenced. KASAN error message: KASAN: null-ptr-deref in range [0x0000000000000000-0x0000000000000007] CPU: 2 PID: 18478 Comm: syz-executor.7 Not tainted 5.10.246-syzkaller #0 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.12.0-1 04/01/2014 RIP: 0010:perf_trace_afs_get_tree+0x1d9/0x550 include/trace/events/afs.h:1365 Call Trace: trace_afs_get_tree include/trace/events/afs.h:1365 [inline] afs_get_tree+0x922/0x1350 fs/afs/super.c:599 vfs_get_tree+0x8e/0x300 fs/super.c:1572 do_new_mount fs/namespace.c:3011 [inline] path_mount+0x14a5/0x2220 fs/namespace.c:3341 do_mount fs/namespace.c:3354 [inline] __do_sys_mount fs/namespace.c:3562 [inline] __se_sys_mount fs/namespace.c:3539 [inline] __x64_sys_mount+0x283/0x300 fs/namespace.c:3539 do_syscall_64+0x33/0x50 arch/x86/entry/common.c:46 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x67/0xd1 Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with Syzkaller.
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -w CONFIG_AFS_FS /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w kafsPrints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.
Show whether Debian builds this, per release
Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.
- bookworm, trixie, forky, sidMnot built on amd64/cloud-amd64, arm64/cloud-arm64
- M
- a module where it is built at all; some flavours do not build it
- Build switch
- CONFIG_AFS_FS
From the configuration Debian publishes for every kernel flavour it builds. It covers only the architectures Debian ships a linux-config package for, and nothing about a kernel you built yourself. Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-74426, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
