The vulnerability
What the bug is
lbtf_free_adapter() calls timer_delete(&priv->command_timer), which does not wait for a running command_timer_fn() callback. lbtf_free_adapter() runs on the teardown path right before ieee80211_free_hw() frees priv, both in lbtf_remove_card() and in the probe error path. command_timer is armed by mod_timer() in lbtf_cmd() whenever a firmware command is sent. command_timer_fn() dereferences priv. If a command times out as the device is removed, command_timer_fn() runs concurrently with teardown and dereferences priv after it has been freed. This is the same use-after-free that commit 03cc8f90d053 ("wifi: libertas: fix use-after-free in lbs_free_adapter()") fixed in the sibling libertas driver. The libertas_tf variant has the identical pattern and was left unchanged. Use timer_delete_sync() so any in-flight callback completes before priv is freed.
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -wE 'CONFIG_LIBERTAS_THINFIRM|CONFIG_WLAN|CONFIG_WLAN_VENDOR_MARVELL' /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w libertas_tfPrints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.
Show whether Debian builds this, per release
Debian builds this, but not on every flavour. At least one release below builds the code on some of its kernel flavours and not on others, so the answer depends on the architecture and flavour installed.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-72070, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
