The vulnerability

What the bug is

fsl_mc_get_endpoint() returns the MAC endpoint device with a reference taken through device_find_child(). The switch port connect path stores that device in mac->mc_dev and keeps it for the lifetime of the connected MAC object. However, the disconnect path only closes the MAC and frees the dpaa2_mac object. It does not drop the endpoint device reference stored in mac->mc_dev, so every successful connect leaks that device reference when the MAC is later disconnected. Drop the endpoint device reference before freeing the dpaa2_mac object.

Where it lives

The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

What this is

Kernel module
none to look for. The file would have gone into fsl_dpaa2_switch, and Debian does not compile it into that module, so finding fsl_dpaa2_switch in lsmod would say nothing about this CVE.

Check it on the machine

grep -wE 'CONFIG_ETHERNET|CONFIG_FSL_DPAA2_SWITCH|CONFIG_NET_VENDOR_FREESCALE' /boot/config-$(uname -r)

Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.

Show whether Debian builds this, per release

Debian does not build this code. In 5 releases below, every kernel flavour Debian publishes has the switch off, so the vulnerable file is compiled into no kernel binary Debian ships.

Why the CNA scored it this way

The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-68333, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
