The vulnerability
What the bug is
A logic flaw in __smc_setsockopt() allows a local unprivileged user to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by holding the socket lock indefinitely. The function __smc_setsockopt() calls copy_from_sockptr() while holding lock_sock(sk). By passing a userfaultfd-monitored memory page (or FUSE-backed memory on systems where unprivileged userfaultfd is disabled) as the optval, an attacker can halt execution during the copy operation, keeping the lock held. Combined with asynchronous tear-down operations like shutdown(), this exhausts the kernel wq (kworkers) and triggers the hung task watchdog. [ 240.123456] INFO: task kworker/u8:2 blocked for more than 120 seconds. [ 240.123489] Call Trace: [ 240.123501] smc_shutdown+... [ 240.123512] lock_sock_nested+... This patch moves the user-space copy outside the lock_sock() critical section to prevent the issue.
Where it lives
The fix touches these files. If the subsystem is one you do not use, the practical exposure is lower, though the package is still the vulnerable one.

Check it on the machine
grep -w CONFIG_SMC /boot/config-$(uname -r)Reads the booted kernel's own configuration, on the machine and nowhere else. =y is built in, =m is a module, and an is not set line means the code is not there.
lsmod | grep -w smcPrints a line if that module is loaded right now, and nothing if it is not. One that is not loaded can still be loaded later by anything that needs it.
Show whether Debian builds this, per release
Debian does not build this code in 2 releases. It does build it in 2 releases, so the answer depends on which release the machine runs.

Why the CNA scored it this way
The kernel CNA published no CVSS vector and no reasoning for CVE-2026-53274, which is why it is shown as unrated rather than given an invented score. 6,405 of the 20,413 CVEs here carry reasoning; this is not one of them.
